Spalletti: We Were Slow, Champions League Qualification Not Yet Secured
Monday 27-04-2026
Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti appeared in a press conference following the 0-0 draw against Juventus in the 34th round of the Italian league, held at the San Siro Stadium.

Spalletti said in statements to DAZN: "We continued our journey and tried to take the initiative, but we were slow and predictable in the first half, and we couldn't get past their players, so they were always in an organized position."

He added in his speech: "You have to be cautious against Milan because you might feel like you're controlling the match, and then suddenly they break forward with three or four players and create danger. The real threat is when you start feeling comfortable against them."

He explained that the team worked on stopping counterattacks through defensive organization, but he noted that there were some instances that could have been handled better, including an intervention on Jonathan David.

Regarding Jonathan David's performance, he said: "If there isn't strong physical contact, he can navigate situations with his skill, but if he faces physical challenges, he struggles more. However, he is a player who runs a lot, constantly presses, and significantly helps the team."

He spoke about the lack of support for David on the field, saying: "We should have created more density to assist him, especially in the first half when he was left alone."

He also explained that Dusan Vlahovic and Kenan Yildiz participated in the final minutes despite not being fully ready after their injuries, saying: "Vlahovic has just returned from a long injury, and we cannot take risks with him, and Yildiz was not in his best condition either."

Spalletti concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the draw reflects the strength of the competition in the league, noting that Roma and Como have come closer in the standings, which keeps the battle for Champions League spots ongoing until the final rounds, urging his players to be decisive in the upcoming matches.
