Report: Manchester City Includes Enzo Fernandez in Summer Options
Thursday 23-04-2026
Manchester City continues its moves in the summer transfer market, placing Argentine Enzo Fernandez, a Chelsea player, among its top options to strengthen the midfield, amid the possibility of some team stars leaving.

According to "The Athletic" newspaper, Manchester City's interest in signing Fernandez is still in its early stages, as the club is considering several other options for the midfield, including Nottingham Forest's player Elliot Anderson.

Interest in Fernandez is not limited to City alone, as Real Madrid is also among the clubs monitoring the player's situation. However, there is no clarity regarding any official move to sign him so far, especially after the controversy sparked by his statements about the Spanish club during the international break in March, which led to his exclusion from two matches by a decision from his coach, Liam Rosenior.

Manchester City's move comes as Bernardo Silva's departure approaches, following the club's announcement that he will leave at the end of his contract this summer, after a career spanning nearly a decade at the Etihad Stadium.

On the other hand, Rodri's contract extends until 2027, with coach Pep Guardiola expressing optimism about the possibility of renewing the player's contract, despite the latter's statements expressing his desire to return to the Spanish league in the future and his openness to representing Real Madrid.

The report indicated that Manchester City is also competing with Manchester United to sign Elliot Anderson, who prefers a move to the Etihad Stadium, as both clubs aim to strengthen their midfield during the summer transfer window.

Fernandez, who is 25 years old, is under contract with Chelsea until 2032. However, his future remains in question following controversial statements he made last March.

The London club had dismissed their coach, Liam Rosenior, following a 3-0 defeat to Brighton, in a match that came after the player's return to participation.

For his part, his agent Javier Pastore revealed that there are talks with Chelsea regarding the player's contract renewal, confirming that if an agreement is not reached after the World Cup, Fernandez may consider other options.

Since his transfer to Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for 120 million euros, Fernandez has played 163 matches, during which he won the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League.

During the current season, the 2022 World Cup champion participated in 48 matches across various competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing 6 assists.

Chelsea occupies the seventh position in the English Premier League standings, while Manchester City is level on points with the leader Arsenal, following their recent 1-0 victory over Burnley.
