Kompany: Happy to Qualify for the Final, Aware of the Importance of the PSG Match

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany appeared in press statements, following the qualification to the German Cup final, after defeating Bayer Leverkusen, with two goals to none.

The coach said: "The final is still far away, because your focus is naturally on Mainz. But for the club, I think from my first day at Bayern, the talk has always been about reaching the Berlin final, and bringing the club back there. This, in my opinion, is a great gift for the club. Yes, we will be happy with that."

He added: "I think this is the hardest thing in football, because you can't actually enjoy success. You are always preoccupied with the next match, and it is always on your mind. There is also a feeling that winning the cup in Berlin means a lot, but if we lose, it will feel like the other team won the cup because they defeated us, and that's not something you want to give to anyone. However, we are enjoying this period, because it is about titles and we are competitors in all tournaments."

He emphasized: "The most important thing is that we qualified. The first half was very good from us, with a high tempo, we allowed nothing, and we created our chances. In the second half, Leverkusen entered the match better. They didn't get many chances, but we defended deeper. It must be said that they forced us to do so because they played well, but we also defended well, and we got a counterattack from which we scored the goal."

He continued: "When will you start focusing on the PSG match? Theoretically after the Mainz match. It's true that we've secured the league, and that's important, but we have a clear routine for preparation and I don't want to change this mechanism. We know Paris Saint-Germain well, we have played against them a lot, and we are aware of the magnitude of the match. But before that, there is another important match."

He concluded regarding Neuer's crucial save: "I think we defended excellently throughout the match. But that one moment can change the course of the game, and here you need a goalkeeper of this quality. We have great strength in the goalkeeper position. Neuer is important to us not only for his performance but also for his leadership, and we appreciate that."
