Arbeloa: We Haven't Lost La Liga Yet, and I Hope Vinicius Stays for Many Years
Wednesday 22-04-2026
Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa spoke at the press conference following the 2-1 victory over Deportivo Alavés, in the 33rd round of La Liga, in the match held at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

Regarding the boos for the team and Vinicius, the coach said: "This is not the first time this has happened, it has been proven for many years. In recent months, Vinicius has managed to regain his form and has always put in a great effort in moments when we faced very difficult circumstances. He has been able to carry the team on his shoulders, and we can never deny his desire for more, to try again and not hide. He has great courage. He is a great Madridista, very much attached to the badge and the shirt. I am very happy when the fans reward him with applause. This is what I always expect from this relationship."

He added regarding Dani Carvajal's situation: "I have 23 players. Any Real Madrid player has the chance to go to the World Cup. If you allow me, I will think about what is best for my team."

On Eduardo Camavinga: "He has returned to the field, to play and help the team, and that's what he wants. He is a player with great personality. Despite his young age, he has a lot of experience, and whenever I need him, as happened today, he will enter the field. During these months, he has been an important player, always participating in minutes, whether as a starter or from the bench. Like Vinicius: they are players who arrived at Real Madrid very young and have achieved many important titles in a few years. Not only does he have the confidence of his coach, but I believe he also has the trust of the entire club, and I am sure of the fans too."

He continued about Vinicius and the boos: "I don't feel this is a general matter, nor does it happen every day, nor is it specific to Vinicius. This is something we will continue to experience with this controversy, with the level of demands in this stadium and these fans. What the fans always want is to extract the best from the players. When I was a player, I understood it this way when they booed against me, as a sign of demand, knowing what the player can offer and what he should offer as a Real Madrid player. I am pleased with what Vinicius did today: turning the initial boos into applause. He has done it many times, and other players have done it today as well. For me, this is the most important."

He explained: "Jude Bellingham is coming from a special situation. The other day in Munich was his first match playing 90 minutes after a long injury period. We have another match on Friday. After what happened with Militão, I didn't want to risk him because I need him at his best on Friday. Bellingham always has that mentality, ambition, and desire, to the extent that even in a match like this, he wanted to continue and participate more. I like this, but we shouldn't give it more importance, and we will see him again on Friday on the field."

He continued: "Will the team regain its form in May? I hope it's neither too long nor too short. We have six matches, and the next match is in three days. This is the goal we have set: to win these seven matches regardless of what happens in the league. This is our goal as a group, to know that every match is important. We are already thinking about many things that need to be improved. The ability to fight in every match, regardless of the opponent or what is at stake, is something we need to develop. As a goal, we will play the remaining six matches to win them."

He followed: "My message to the team is very clear: we have demands and responsibility. If we want to win the league next year, we must demand more from ourselves. We need to raise the level of self-ambition, regardless of what is at stake or the opponent. We must be able to demand much more from ourselves. And for that, we must start now, and go to win the remaining six matches, as I always say, I don't care much about what is at stake for me, what matters is what Real Madrid plays for. We will play these six matches to win them."

On renewing Vinicius' contract: "This is not a question for me. I am sure, and I hope and wish that Vinicius Junior wants to stay for many years at Real Madrid."

Regarding the competition for the La Liga title: "As long as we have mathematical chances, of course, there is still a league. If a day comes when we no longer have chances and we lose the league and Barcelona wins it, we will congratulate them. Until then, we will continue to fight. And if that day comes, we will continue to fight in the remaining matches. There is no doubt about that, because that is what is required of us. But as long as the league is not over and there are still chances, we must continue to fight."

He concluded: "The stance of Real Madrid fans on Vinicius? I want Vinicius to stay here for many years, and that is what matters to me. I can speak for myself, and I am sure of what I think. I strongly believe that Vinicius Junior is loved by Real Madrid fans."
