Konate: We Were the Better Team on the Field, and Ekitike's Injury is Serious
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté appeared in a press statement following the 2-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, in the match held at Anfield.
The first leg match between the two teams ended with Paris Saint-Germain winning 2-0 as well, allowing the Parisian team to advance to the semifinals.
Konate said: "Today we created many chances, and I believe we were the better team on the field. It was somewhat unfair, just like last season, where we had many opportunities but couldn't score, while they had one or two chances and scored."
Regarding the penalty that the referee canceled after consulting the video technology: "Last season, we were awarded a similar penalty. For me, it was a clear penalty, and the ball was directly behind the referee, but he didn't blow his whistle, and we have to accept that. If the penalty had been awarded and we scored, the situation would have been completely different."
Regarding Hugo Ekitike's injury: "I think it's a serious injury. I don't know, I've heard a lot of opinions, and I have nothing to say about it, because the World Cup is around the corner, and this is very difficult for him. I wish him a speedy recovery."
Regarding the performance and the rest of the season: "A lot has happened, and we must not forget that. Today's match was of great importance, especially against Paris Saint-Germain, which is slightly better than last season. We need to build on this performance and recognize our strength."
He concluded: "This is the minimum requirement for Liverpool to participate in the Champions League. We have six matches left, and we must do our utmost in them."
