Simeone: Sevilla Was More Decisive, We Have a Fixed Plan
Sunday 12-04-2026
Argentinian Diego Simeone, the coach of Atlético Madrid, spoke about his team's 2-1 loss to Sevilla in the match held at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, as part of the Spanish league competition.

Simeone said: "For me, there are no ages; there are players who understand the game and others who do not. We did more good things than bad, and the opponent had a great need to win."

He continued: "We competed well, but we couldn't create as many opportunities as we wanted. We had possession more than I would have preferred, as I would have liked us to be more direct and sharper in transitions, but we didn't succeed in that."

He added, "The result was close, and we could have drawn, but we were unable to capitalize on the opportunities available."

He added: "Conceding an early goal could have put us in a difficult position, but the team held together and pursued what we had planned, through team play and creating superiority on the flanks. The goal we scored was beautiful."

He pointed out: "I am pleased with what the young players have delivered, as they have shown character, intelligence, and ability. They must continue to develop because opportunities may arise at any time."

He clarified: "The penalty decision is up to the referee, and there is no point in commenting on it because it won't change anything."

Simeone concluded his remarks by saying: "We didn't lose because we were thinking about Barcelona, but because Sevilla was more decisive. We have a plan, and that doesn't mean it will always succeed, but I have a plan and I won't change it."
