Laporta: Our Offer for Alvarez Has an Expiry Date, No Progress in Negotiations
Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that the club is still committed to its initial offer for Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, but he also indicated that the offer's validity is not open-ended.
Laporta stated in comments relayed by Fabrizio Romano: "We are still maintaining our initial offer on the table, but its validity is not unlimited; we will determine its duration later."
He added: "The last time I spoke with Miguel Ángel Gil (Atletico Madrid's CEO), we communicated clearly and very well as always, and I see our relationship with them as excellent."
He continued: "There was some confusion initially regarding the offer we made, and I clarified that to him. We did not push further; I just told him that the offer would be valid until they have an available replacement, and at that point, things stopped."
He concluded: "There has been no further progress in negotiations beyond that so far."
Laporta's remarks suggest that Barcelona is still interested in signing Julian Alvarez, but at the same time, they do not intend to wait too long, putting Atletico Madrid in a crucial position regarding the future of their Argentine striker during the current summer transfer window.
