Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk appeared in press statements following the 2-0 loss against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals at the Parc des Princes.

The Dutch defender said: "It was an extremely tough match, and this is what we always expected. I think we defended intensely around the penalty area. Unfortunately, the first goal came as a result of the ball deflecting off its course. We had some chances on the counter-attacks and could have utilized them better."

He emphasized: "Now we have to quickly prepare for the return match, and Fulham is also waiting for us."

On playing with five defenders: "They move constantly everywhere. We have to communicate and follow our opponents and take risks in this aspect, as well as wait for the right moment to recover the ball. We hope to be much better, especially in ball possession at Anfield."

On the importance of Giorgi Mamardashvili's performance: "We hope he will be very decisive. Last year, we played a match here that we should have lost. It was Alisson's best game, but we couldn't secure the win at Anfield."

On the second leg match: "We have to be at our peak focus. We hope our fans play a big role in that. Our fans are the backbone of the club, and we hope they will be present to support us."

On Paris Saint-Germain having a week of rest: "We have to focus on ourselves, and that's the only thing we will do."
