Enrique: This Matter is Not Important, We Want to Reach the Semi-Finals
Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against Liverpool, in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, at the Parc des Princes.
Enrique said: "For me, it doesn't matter who people consider the favorite to win. In this type of match, it's impossible to determine a favored team. I don't think we are the favorites. Last season, everyone was saying Liverpool was the favorite, and in the end, Paris Saint-Germain advanced."
Regarding his approach this season compared to last season, he explained: "This is the coach's task, to find a way for the team to perform at its best regardless of the circumstances. This season is different from the previous one, but what I always want is for the team to maintain its identity and play good football."
Regarding Bradley Barcola's situation, he said: "If he's listed in the medical report, he won't play. He has trained with the team but still lacks some confidence and physical readiness. It's up to him to tell us when he feels ready."
He continued regarding Fabian Ruiz's absence: "It's natural when a player gets injured; you have to wait until they fully regain their sense. There's no issue with Fabian, but he hasn't participated in any group training yet. He's improving, but he still needs some time before returning."
Regarding the first-leg match against Liverpool last season, he said: "It was a very high-level performance, and it's surprising that we lost that match. I agree to deliver the same level tomorrow, but not the same result. We want to win every game, and we want to take advantage of playing at our home ground, the atmosphere at Parc des Princes, and the support of the fans."
Regarding how to maintain Gonzalo Ramos's readiness despite his limited participation, he said: "It's easy to talk about but difficult to implement. A team that wants to win all titles needs players like Lee Kang-in and Gonzalo Ramos, who are the type of players that are hard to find."
Regarding the return of Achraf Hakimi, he said: "He went through a difficult period due to injury, yet he was keen to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations. It's challenging for a player like him to quickly regain his form afterward, but we are very happy to see him return to this level."
Regarding the type of match he expects against Liverpool, he explained: "I don't know exactly, it might be similar to what happened last year, but in the first match, we will try to possess the ball more than them. We know they have exceptional players and a good coach, and we are used to facing English clubs, so the match might not differ much from last season."
Waddad: "Having only eight teams in the quarter-finals makes it special. When you get used to reaching this stage every year, it's a positive thing, especially when facing a team like Liverpool. But our goal is to qualify for the semi-finals."
In concluding his remarks, he touched on the improvement in the team's character in crucial matches since taking over, saying: "As I've always said, we try to play attractive football. When you play in a clear way and with outstanding players, it becomes easy for me as a coach but difficult for the players. This is the standard we work on. We may win or lose, but this is our style. With this great support from the fans, it always becomes easier, and the match at Parc des Princes will be the key to qualification."
