Vitinha: This does not mean anything, and I am lucky
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against Liverpool, in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, at the Parc des Princes.
The player said: "Being the favorites to win doesn't mean anything. We know football well, and in such matches, there is no real favorite. Liverpool remains Liverpool; it's a very big team, and on Champions League nights, any team can show up differently. There will be two big matches, and tomorrow we will be 100% ready and fully focused because it will be a very tough match."
He added about the possibility of Paris having a psychological advantage before the match: "If it benefits us, then yes, but if it harms us, then no. The important thing is to remain fully focused, that's how our thinking should be."
Regarding our matches against Liverpool last season: "They were two exceptional games, it was amazing. The first match left us with some frustration because Alisson was the man of the match. I don't recall a clear chance for Liverpool except for the goal, and that's what we want to do as well. Some think it will be easy, but in football, many things can happen in just one week. Now, a whole year has passed, and we will be ready for this match, but it will be different."
He continued: "Ousmane Dembélé has always been a leader, even when he didn't wear the captain's armband last season. What he does on the field influences the rest of the players. Leadership comes very naturally to him, and he holds this position spontaneously."
Regarding Dembélé's statements after the Rennes match, where he spoke about a decline in teamwork, he clarified: "We talked about it within the team, we know him well, he was enthusiastic after the match, and we accepted it well. In the end, the results were positive, and I didn't feel that his words were directed at me."
Regarding playing alongside Warren Zaire-Emery instead of the injured Fabian Ruiz since January 20: "Fabian has been absent for a long time, and we hope he will be available because he is a key player. However, Zaire-Emery is a different player, and as a team, we have to adapt to these situations. We have proven many times that the team takes responsibility when a player is absent and can win matches. As for me, I have to adapt and always be ready."
He concluded: "Your physical condition? I haven't suffered from any physical issues this season, and I've been lucky in that regard because such things can't always be controlled. We just try to recover well between matches. Maybe it's due to luck or genetic factors. I'm happy I haven't been injured and hope it stays that way."
