Vinicius: This is My Stance on Renewing My Contract, and Mbappe Makes the Difference
Monday 06-04-2026
Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against Bayern Munich, in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

The player said in his interview: "The interaction between players and fans always changes the dynamics of the matches. We have to be prepared because a strong team is coming that hasn't lost much this season. We are ready and have a lot of experience in such matches, and we hope to deliver a good performance."

He added: "Some days are good, and on some we are more in sync, while on others we are less so. That's what happened in Mallorca. We returned from playing with our national teams and weren't as in sync as we used to be. On such days, if you're not fully focused, you won't win matches, as the coach said. And tomorrow is an important match for us."

He continued about renewing his contract: "I hope to stay here for a long time. I have one year left on my contract, and I am reassured because I have the president's trust. I want to stay here for a long time because it is my dream club, and every time I visit it, I feel overwhelming happiness, and I want to stay for many years."

Regarding scoring 10 goals in the last 15 matches: "I have a special relationship with Arbeloa. He has made it clear what he wants from me, and I always give my best for this team. It has been a long time since I last scored goals; I don't think this has happened to me before." I have learned, and I want to continue learning because the best players always change the course of things."

Regarding my time with Alonso: "It was a difficult moment because I was playing many matches but with few minutes. However, every coach has his own way and style. I think it was not possible to align with what he wanted and what the team wanted, but it was a learning moment; I learned a lot, and the players helped me a lot during that time as well. I was able to do a lot of reflection and improve as a person, and I hope to continue like this with coach Arbeloa, with whom I have a great relationship. He has always given me confidence and always told me what I really needed to do. I am ready and prepared to deliver great matches for the coach and for this club that has given me so much."

Regarding the criticisms against Mbappe: "People say a lot of things... Usually, when there are many good players, everyone will talk about them. Kylian is here to help us, he has always given us confidence and scores goals for us. We need to be fully focused tomorrow, especially with the support of our fans and all the players; because it's a complicated match, and in such games, the best players make the difference, and Kylian is one of them. I have a great understanding and chemistry with him, not only on the field but off it as well. We are always together and will continue to fight for this club always."

He followed up on his physical and mental state after returning from the international break: "I feel good. I've been through tough moments this season, where I went through a period without scoring goals, and where the fans booed me, but all of that was a learning experience. I believe I am now in my best form this season; I am in good physical shape after playing many matches. Trips with the national team are always a bit exhausting due to time changes, countries, and everything, but we have to be prepared. I want to play for the club, but I also want to defend my national team and be 100% ready. That's why I put in a lot of effort with the club's technical staff and at home with my physiotherapist, so I can be fully prepared and at my best."

He stated, "Harry Kane's participation tomorrow will change the game. Harry Kane scores a lot of goals, and more than just goals; he is their main striker. However, they have a very great team where many players switch positions, and I think this could make things very difficult for us. Regardless of who plays, it will be extremely challenging, and we all need to be prepared."

Regarding the criticism about the lack of defensive balance when playing with Mbappe: "Of course, this bothers us, but people are there to say what they want. On our part, we must be united with each other, understand what the coach asks of us, what the club wants, and what we can do to stay in constant communication with our fans. What comes from outside, we cannot change, and it does not affect us. But if we are all united, we can make each other better and do things in a better way. There are still about two months left until the end of the season, and we have everything to play for."

Regarding racism: "I'm fine, it's always a very complex topic to talk about, but it happens a lot. I hope we can continue this fight, it's also important for Lamine Yamal to speak about it (regarding what happened in the Spain vs. Egypt match), as this can help others; because we players are famous, we have money, and we can balance these things better. But the poor and black people everywhere certainly have more difficulties than we do. So, we must be united, those who have great power, and the players as well. I'm not saying that Spain, Germany, or Portugal are racist countries, but there are racists in these countries, especially in Brazil and many other countries as well. But if we continue this fight together, I believe that in the future, new players won't have to go through these situations, and neither will people in general."

He reflected on his moment of anger towards Xabi Alonso in the Clasico: "Yes, it was not a good moment, and I apologized then to the team, the club, the coach, and everyone present at that time. I also asked for forgiveness from the fans. It was a complicated moment because I want to play every match and never want to be taken out of any game. At that moment, I felt I was in good shape and that the substitution was not the right decision, but after the match, when things calm down, you realize you were wrong. This happens, as I am still young, 25 years old, and although I have been playing here for a long time and have a lot of experience, every day is a new experience from which I learn and improve. I believe I am developing in this aspect, and I want to continue to evolve to be a role model for children and others day by day."

Regarding Militao's return, he concluded: "I am very happy about Militao's return, especially since he is one of my best friends. I have also been injured two or three times this season, so I am happy for him. Without a doubt, he is the best center-back in the world, and when he is with us, we are better and more cohesive. When all the players are present, we are stronger, and now we are witnessing the return of all the players like Jude, Ferland, and Ceballos. They are important players and will help us a lot because there is little time left until the end of the season, and we all need to be united because I believe it will be a great end to the season for us."
