The Eritrean national team's delegation experienced a mysterious incident in South Africa after seven players disappeared immediately following their qualification for the next stage of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The incident occurred following the second leg of the preliminary round, which ended with the Eritrean national team defeating Eswatini 2-1. Seven players did not return to their country with the delegation, while only three out of ten players returned.
