Alonso Sets His Sights on Guler if He Takes Over Liverpool Coaching
Spanish coach Xabi Alonso is close to returning to the coaching seat at Liverpool, following the team's disappointing performance under Dutch coach Arne Slot, according to several British media outlets. Reports confirm that negotiations with Alonso have already begun for the 2026/2027 season.
According to 'TEAMtalk', Alonso has requested Liverpool's management to strengthen the team with four players, most notably the young Turkish star Arda Guler from Real Madrid, to be a replacement for forward Mohamed Salah, in addition to Marc Pobile, Yan Diomande, and Anthony Gordon.
Alonso is well aware of Guler's capabilities, having given him consecutive opportunities in the starting lineup to develop and prove his status as a top-tier player.
Guler is set to complete a strong attacking line that includes Ekitike, the big surprise of the season, and Isak, who has not achieved the expected success, along with Wirtz, all of whom joined last summer. Alonso has also requested the addition of Diomande from Leipzig and Gordon from Newcastle to ensure a distinctive offensive strength.
However, Real Madrid's management is not ready to negotiate the sale of Guler, whose contract extends until 2029, and he will not be allowed to leave unless the player himself requests it, which has not happened so far, knowing that his market value reaches 90 million euros.
