Real Madrid has decided to officially appeal the decision to dismiss Federico Valverde during the derby match against Atletico Madrid, as part of the 29th round of the Spanish League, which ended with the royal team's victory 3-2.

The match witnessed Valverde's expulsion in the 77th minute after he tackled Alex Baena from behind in the midfield, prompting referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero to issue a direct red card, without intervention from the video assistant technology or a call to review the incident.

According to the Spanish newspaper 'Marca,' the referee's report clarified that the reason for the dismissal was due to kicking the opponent with excessive force while the ball was out of play, which is classified as rough play without an attempt to play the ball.

According to the Spanish League regulations, this situation typically warrants a two-match suspension, meaning Valverde would miss the matches against Real Mallorca and Girona if the penalty is officially upheld.

The newspaper indicated that Real Madrid's management is seeking through this appeal to cancel the red card or at least reduce the penalty, pending the final decision from the competent authorities.
