Simeone: I Will Not Address This Matter, We Deserve a Better Result
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone appeared in a press conference following the 3-2 loss against Real Madrid in the 29th round of La Liga, at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
The coach said, "The penalty that wasn't awarded to Llorente? I don't think that's why we lost. We had the opportunity to capitalize on the good chances we created, but we couldn't advance and win a match where we deserved at least a better result."
He added, "Lukman? He has been consistently improving, working hard, and providing us with diverse attacking options. We need him in this way, as he helps us develop defensively because he possesses this ability. He has a high fighting spirit and a constant desire to learn and develop. He is a fantastic player, and we hope he continues to deliver outstanding performances as he did today."
He continued regarding Cardoso's statements that the refereeing was not applied equally to both teams: "I will not address this matter because I do not believe it affected the match. We could have performed better, controlled the game differently after falling behind by a goal, avoided mistakes, managed things better, and we have strong opponents who play well and will exploit any available opportunity."
He emphasized, "Do you think the penalty that wasn't awarded for Llorente was correct? And what about the penalty that was given against Hanko?" I was far from both plays; I didn't even see them on TV.
He noted, "We needed to have more control over the match and create more scoring opportunities, but we couldn't implement what I'm talking about."
He concluded: "What are the team's mistakes? I've mentioned this for the fourth time; I don't have much to add."
