Sunday 22-03-2026
Yves Torup, Al Ahly's coach, spoke about his team's farewell to the African Champions League after losing to Tunisia's Esperance today.

Al Ahly lost to Esperance with a score of 3-2 in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the African Champions League.

Torup said in the press conference after the match: "Congratulations to Esperance for qualifying for the semi-finals of the African Champions League, and I take full responsibility for the match result. I believe we performed well between the two halves and took the lead with a goal."

He added: "I had hope to enter the second half with greater spirit, but a naive mistake cost us a goal, and minutes later a second mistake resulted in a penalty. I apologize to Al Ahly and its fans for not achieving the desired result."

Torup also said: "We must review ourselves and see the mistakes to correct them, and this is my fault and I am responsible. I am not in control of my future; I do my job and there is management. If their wish is for me to continue, I will respect that, and I understand well the difficulty of this period."

He added: "The opponent exploited all the opportunities they had, and we lost the match in just three minutes. We had the chance to increase the score before Esperance scored, but the goals we conceded in a short time were the reason for what happened."
