Concern Within Barcelona Over Juan Garcia's Injury
Wednesday 18-03-2026
Barcelona faced a new muscular issue after their young goalkeeper, Juan Garcia, was injured during the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 match against Newcastle United, according to the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo'.

The newspaper explained that the 24-year-old Garcia felt pain in his left leg while attempting to block a shot from Barnes. He twisted as he stood and touched the pain area on the field before lying down and lowering his socks to pinpoint the exact location of the injury.

The same source added that the first team's medical staff intervened immediately, and after examination, the technical staff decided to substitute the goalkeeper in the 80th minute. He left the field on foot, expressing his feeling of injury.

He was replaced by the 35-year-old Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who entered directly without time to warm up and managed to save Barnes' shot, marking his first official appearance with Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou, having previously played at the same stadium with Arsenal and Roma.

The newspaper indicated that the injury might affect Garcia's chances of being called up to the Spanish national team for the international break matches at the end of March. However, manager Hans Flick reassured fans after the match, stating that the injury does not seem serious.

The Spanish newspaper also noted that his teammate Eric Garcia left the field due to some muscular issues in the first half, but it was precautionary to avoid aggravating injuries due to the high pace of the match from the start.
