Lunin: Courtois' Injury is Regrettable, Here's What We Hope
Wednesday 18-03-2026
Real Madrid's goalkeeper Andriy Lunin appeared in press statements after the 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 at the Etihad Stadium, advancing the team to the quarter-finals, noting that the first leg ended with Real Madrid winning 3-0.

Lunin said in his speech: "It's unfortunate that Thibaut Courtois is injured. It seems we always have bad luck with injuries. We knew it was going to be a tough match, and that City, even with ten players, is still a strong team, but we did our duty and qualified for the quarter-finals, and now we have to keep moving forward and prepare for the next match."

He added: "As a goalkeeper, you never want to give the opponent any chance. You want to keep a clean sheet and not let any shots on goal. This is the Champions League, and this is City, and we knew what kind of game to expect. It's natural to have moments where you will suffer here."

He continued: "Winning against a strong opponent like Manchester City gives you a morale boost, and we hope it pushes us towards a winning streak. It's always easier to work when you're in a winning state, so I hope we continue this performance and keep improving."

He concluded: "Will you participate in the next match against Atletico Madrid? I don't know. I think they need to talk to the doctors. My approach is always the same: prepare for every match, be ready, and give my best."
