Slot Explains the Draw Against Tottenham, Talks About Szoboszlai's Goal
Liverpool coach Arne Slot appeared in press statements following the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the 30th round of the English Premier League at Anfield.
The coach said: "Once again in the last minute, and once again after a clear chance to score, we leave the field with a disappointing result. The same way of conceding goals in the last minute does not repeat. You cannot compare Wolverhampton's rebound shot with today's shot."
He added: "All the chances they had came from long balls and rebounds, and we couldn't clear the ball quickly enough. In the last 20 minutes, we were launching counterattacks, but we couldn't score from those moments. With the way this season is going, it's not entirely surprising that we concede goals in the last moments."
He emphasized: "We can never compensate for the number of chances we get. There are aspects of our play that we definitely need to improve, and that's why we're in this situation."
About Rio Ngomouha: "I think I said two months ago, he has developed remarkably and he is sixteen years old, and now at seventeen, he continues to develop. A performance like today will certainly help him get more minutes with this club."
He continued: "We conceded too many goals to the point that we couldn't collect the points this club and I personally are used to. We have tremendous attacking capabilities, but if you don't score enough goals, you have to keep a clean sheet, which we haven't done enough this season."
About Dominik Szoboszlai's goal: "A great goal. It's nice to score a goal like that. We had much better chances, but when Dominik is positioned behind the ball, it becomes a big opportunity, as we saw today."
About the boos: "No, I think this is completely normal. When the team we support loses many points against teams we don't expect to lose to, and repeatedly in the last seconds of the match, we all feel very frustrated, they have gone through this many times, more than they are used to, and it is completely normal for them to show their frustration. This frustration is felt by me, the players, and our fans as well."
He concluded: "I am quite sure that if they attend on Wednesday [against Galatasaray in the Champions League] they will be supportive of us from the start, but if the team does not perform as expected, I think it's completely normal for them to feel frustrated."
