Resolution List: How is the Egyptian League Champion Determined?
The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association revealed the regulations governing the competitions for this season, dedicating Article (15) to clarify the mechanism for determining rankings in the event of two or more teams having equal points. It relies on precise technical and disciplinary criteria that distinguish between the first stage and the final stage of the competition.
Stage One: Goal difference is the "first tiebreaker."
According to the regulations, if there is a tie in points at the end of the first stage, the following criteria are applied in order:
Overall goal difference: The club that achieved the highest goal difference in all matches of the stage.
Goals scored: The club that scored the most goals.
Away goals: Counting the goals scored in opponents' stadiums as a tiebreaker criterion.
Fair play rule: Deducting "consideration points" based on colored cards (1 point for a yellow, 3 points for a direct red or a second warning, and 4 points for a warning followed by a direct red).
The draw: It is resorted to in case the tie persists after exhausting all previous solutions.
Final stage: Priority for "head-to-head encounters"
In the stage of deciding the title or relegation, the association has established different criteria that prioritize head-to-head results between teams with equal points.
First: The number of points recorded in matches held between only the teams with equal standings.
Secondly: The goal difference in those direct encounters, followed by the number of goals scored in them, with an advantage given to goals scored away from home in those matches.
Thirdly, in the event of a continued tie, the general numbers in the competition are referred to (overall goal difference, then total goals scored).
Fourth: "Fair play" remains the final criterion before the draw, with the record of cards being counted throughout the first and final stages.
The adoption of the "consideration points" system in colored cards comes as a step by the association to enhance behavioral commitment on the field, as the accumulation of warnings could lead to the loss of a position or title in the event of a tie in technical points.
