Postponement of the Trial of Maradona's Medical Team for a Month
The start of the criminal trial for the medical team of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona has been postponed for a month, after the court in the city of San Isidro, Argentina, agreed to reschedule the commencement of the legal proceedings.
Seven members of the medical team, including doctors, nurses, and psychiatric specialists, are facing charges of causing Maradona's death due to medical negligence during his treatment at home following brain surgery.
The case dates back to the death of the Argentine star on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60, after suffering heart failure during his recovery period. The prosecution asserts that the medical team did not provide the necessary care for him in the final days before his death.
If convicted, the defendants could face prison sentences of up to 25 years, while all the medical staff continue to deny the charges against them, asserting that they provided appropriate care to the late Argentine star.
