Benshikha Appointed as Coach of Ittihad Tangier, Succeeding Spaniard Jose Mel
The Tangier Union Club announced the appointment of Algerian coach Abdelhak Benchikha as the new head coach of the first team, succeeding Spaniard Jose Mel, who left his position following a series of negative results in the Inwi Professional Championship.
The club posted a welcome message for the new coach on its official Facebook page, stating: "Welcome to our new coach, Abdelhak Benchikha."
In a related context, the management of Ittihad Tangier decided to assign the role of general sports supervisor to the Spaniard Jose Mel, after ending his duties as the head coach of the first team.
Bencheikh is expected to officially start his duties today, Wednesday, as he will lead his first training session with the team in preparation for upcoming commitments.
The new technical staff will benefit from the two-week suspension of the professional championship competitions, as decided by the National Professional Football League. This provides the Algerian coach with an opportunity to work with the players and steer the team back onto the path of positive results.
Ittihad Tanger currently occupies the twelfth position in the league standings with 13 points, accumulated from two victories, seven draws, and six losses. This situation requires the team to improve its results in the upcoming rounds to avoid getting involved in the relegation battle.
