Turnaround in Tony's Case: Referee's Report Dispels Union's Anger After Derby Celebration
Tuesday 10-03-2026
The report by Montenegrin referee Nikola Dabanović revealed an important surprise regarding the controversy surrounding English striker Ivan Toney's celebration during the Jeddah derby between Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad.

The match between the two teams took place last Friday as part of the 25th round of the Saudi Professional League.

Press reports indicated that the referee's report did not include any mention of inappropriate behavior by Tony during his celebration of his team's first goal in the match.

According to what was published by "Al-Riyadiyah" newspaper, the absence of notes in the referee's report means that the position of the Al-Ahli striker is far from any potential disciplinary action.

The Al-Ittihad club had filed an official complaint with the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, objecting to the player's celebration in front of the club's fans near the corner flag.

The match saw Al-Ahly win with a score of three goals to one, with the goals scored by Ivan Toney, Riyad Mahrez, and Firas Al-Buraikan.

Al-Ahli occupies the second place in the Roshan Professional League standings with 62 points, two points behind the leader, Al-Nassr.

Al-Ahly is expected to face Al-Qadsia next Friday as part of the 26th round of the competition.
