Lars Ricken, the sporting director of Borussia Dortmund, expressed his understanding of Nico Schlotterbeck's position during negotiations about his athletic future.

In an interview with the Fanack media group, Ricken explained that "for the public, the negotiations may seem lengthy, but for a player of this caliber, who has to make an important decision, this is not unusual."
