Liverpool Coach Confirms the Difficulty of Facing Wolverhampton and the Importance of Performance
Monday 02-03-2026
Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, spoke about several important matters before his team's match against Wolverhampton in the twenty-ninth round of the English Premier League, scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday. He emphasized the difficulty of the match and the importance of focusing on performance regardless of recent refereeing decisions.

Slot said: "The play that led to the sending off of Crystal Palace's Remy LeCroix against Manchester United is very similar to what happened with Manchester City's defender Marc Guehi and our forward Mohamed Salah. The only difference is that Salah was pulled by his shirt, while it was a touch on the shoulder of the United player."

He added: "After returning to video technology, Lacroix was sent off for obstructing Manchester United's Matheus Cunha inside the area, and in a similar play between Salah and Guehi, the City player was not sent off. I watched the footage and thought he would never be shown the red card because of what happened against us. In both cases, the referee did not show the red card, but in one of the cases, the video referee overturned the decision, so there must be an error in at least one of them."

He continued: "For me, it was a red card, and I have repeatedly said that Jihee's shot deserved it as well. Not everyone agreed with me, and the committee later said it was the right decision, which is frustrating because it's not the first time, but this is a clear example because it happened recently."

Slot added: "There is also the goal that was disallowed against us against City. I have repeatedly said that we should not rely on these decisions and should be good enough to win our matches. I'm not saying everything is against us, that's not true."

Regarding the match against Wolverhampton, he said: "They perform much better than their results suggest. Throughout the season, they have rarely lost by a large margin, and recently they have started collecting points and achieved a win against Aston Villa. Tomorrow's match will be difficult."

He continued: "It's not unusual to play three matches within seven days. Playing against the same team twice in a few days is a challenge, but I prefer it. In the Champions League, when you face another team after a short period, you can change your lineup."

He added: "We know each other well, and I don't see a big difference between playing against the same team twice in a few days compared to a longer interval."

The Dutch coach concluded his remarks: "Two weeks ago, it could have been said that our situation wasn't good, but things change quickly. We are very close to some teams, and results can change in every round. We are focusing on our next match and know that every game has been tough throughout the season, and that's what we expect now."
