Luay Salah: I Bear Responsibility for the Loss Against Al-Shorta and We Will Change Al-Zawraa's Image
Friday 27-02-2026
The new coach of Al-Zawraa team, Luay Salah, acknowledged his full responsibility for the loss his team suffered against Al-Shorta in the capital derby, while also confirming that the upcoming phase will witness clear changes in performance and results.

Salah's statements came after his first match at the head of the technical staff of the Al-Nawras, after taking over the task from the Egyptian Emad Al-Nahhas, at a time when the team is going through a phase that requires reorganization and restoring confidence within the club's corridors.

Salah said in the press conference:

“I bear full responsibility for the loss, as I am the head coach of the team, and this is my first match with Al-Zawraa, so it's natural for me to bear the results whether they are positive or negative.”

He added:

“We didn't have enough time to work in the way I aspire to, we took over the team a very short time ago, but I sensed a great desire among the players to give their best, and this is a positive thing we will build on in the upcoming phase.”

The Al-Zawraa coach continued his talk by saying:

“Al-Zawraa is a big team with a well-known character in the Iraqi league, and what we need now is to restore confidence and calm on the field, especially after a series of results that affected the morale.”

Salah pointed out that some small details decided the outcome of the match, stating:

“The match was balanced in many periods, but simple mistakes cost us a lot. In derby matches, you must be at the highest level of focus throughout the game, and any mistake can be exploited by the opponent.”

The new coach confirmed that change is inevitable, explaining:

“We will change the team's image soon, whether in terms of organization on the field or fighting spirit. We have very good elements, but they need to be re-employed correctly, and continuous work is needed both physically and tactically.”

Salah also emphasized the importance of fan support during this sensitive phase, saying:

“Al-Zawraa's fans are known for their loyalty and great support, and we need their support now more than ever. I promise them that the team will appear differently in the upcoming rounds.”

He concluded his talk by affirming that his mission with Al-Nawras is clear:

“Our goal is to return Al-Zawraa to its natural place among the top teams, and the work will be gradual but steady. This is just the beginning, and we will see a stronger and more disciplined team in the upcoming matches.”
