Thursday 26-02-2026
Álvaro Careras expressed his happiness with Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over Benfica in the second leg of the playoff qualifying for the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, securing the royal team's advancement to the next round after their 1-0 win in the first leg.

He said after the match held at Santiago Bernabéu: "We came to win and we knew the match would be tough. We executed what was required and now we are thinking about the next match, as it is very important for us."

Regarding the team's difficult start: "Recently, we've been entering matches this way, but the support of our fans at home gives us a big boost, and we were able to turn the result around."

Regarding the defensive organization: "We have a great team and exceptional players, but coverage and support among us are essential. The closer and more organized we play, the better we appear."

He continued: "At first, there wasn't a good understanding between Eduardo Camavinga and me, but then we talked more and the harmony improved. I'm happy to play with any player in front of me, whether it's Camavinga or Valverde, as both help me a lot."

Regarding the team's chances in the tournament, he emphasized: "The journey is still long. We must take things one match at a time. We have an important game on Monday at home, and we need to increase the pace because we know the importance of winning every match."

He concluded his remarks by praising his colleague Vinicius Junior, saying: "He is like a bomb when he performs at this level. I am very happy for him and always wish him the best. He is a top-class player."
