Former Iraqi Star: We'll Decide it with Small Details and Defeat Bolivia
Monday 23-02-2026
Former Iraqi star Justin Meram expressed his confidence in the Iraqi national team's ability to decide the intercontinental playoff against the winner of the Bolivia vs. Suriname match, indicating that he will continue to support the 'Lions of Mesopotamia' in every possible way, even from outside the pitch.

Iraq is scheduled to face the winner of the Bolivia vs. Suriname match in the intercontinental playoff on the first of April in the Mexican city of Monterrey, where the Iraqi team looks forward to achieving the dream of qualifying for the World Cup for the second time in its history.

Meram said in media statements: 'In the intercontinental playoff, I first expect Bolivia to qualify at the expense of Suriname due to the technical differences between the two teams, and then I expect Iraq to beat Bolivia by a single goal, whether achieved in regular time, extra time, or even through penalty kicks. Such matches are often decided by small details and high concentration.'

He added: 'I stand with the Iraqi team from afar, and I will support them logistically in the United States upon qualification, and I will ensure they are hosted well, because representing Iraq in the World Cup is a dream for every Iraqi. This was my dream before when I decided to represent the Lions of Mesopotamia at a time when I had a real chance to represent the United States team, because representing the homeland is an unparalleled honor.'

Regarding his feelings after Iraq's loss to Palestine in the World Cup qualifiers, Meram said: 'I followed the match and lost my nerves after the loss, it was a golden opportunity for direct qualification, especially with the increase in the number of teams participating in the World Cup compared to before, but despite that, I trust the Lions of Mesopotamia's ability to achieve the dream of qualification.'
