Ounahi Ready to Return with Girona Against Alaves
Sunday 22-02-2026
Coach Michel Sanchez, the manager of Girona FC, confirmed that Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi is ready to return to the field, starting with the upcoming match against Deportivo Alaves in the Spanish league, after being sidelined for weeks due to injury.

During the press conference, Michel expressed his happiness at regaining the services of Ounahi, confirming that he will be included in the squad and may get his first minutes since the injury he sustained while participating in the Africa Cup of Nations with the Moroccan national team, emphasizing the technical value he adds to the midfield.

The coach of the Catalan team pointed out that Girona faces difficulties against teams that rely on defensive compactness. However, he highlighted the good performance of his players in the matches against Getafe and Real Oviedo, especially in building play, despite the lack of effectiveness in the final touch.

Michel also acknowledged that the recent victory over Barcelona had a significant moral impact, as it boosted confidence within the group and motivated the players to continue fighting to ensure survival and reach the 42-point mark set as a primary goal for this season.

Ounahi sustained an injury on January 3 during a training session prior to Morocco's match against Tanzania in the Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16. This injury ended his participation in the tournament after it was confirmed that he would need at least six weeks to recover.
