Ounahi Postpones Decision on His Future After the World Cup
The Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi has decided to postpone making a decision about his football future until after his participation with the Moroccan national team in the 2026 World Cup finals. He is currently refusing to enter into final negotiations regarding his transfer, despite increasing interest from Spanish league clubs in acquiring his services during the summer transfer window.
The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" revealed that Girona's midfielder declined two official offers from Villarreal and Real Sociedad, preferring to focus entirely on the "Atlas Lions" journey in the World Cup, with plans to address his future after the tournament concludes.
The newspaper confirmed that the interest of La Liga clubs in the Moroccan star is not limited to Villarreal and Real Sociedad, as both Celta Vigo and Real Betis continue to closely monitor his situation, convinced of his technical abilities, despite Girona's relegation to the second division.
She indicated that Ounahi does not intend to exert any pressure on Girona's management to leave during the current transfer window. Instead, he prefers to reach an agreement that benefits all parties while maintaining the good relationship he has with the club, with which his contract extends until the summer of 2030.
The same source added that the release clause in the Moroccan international's contract remains fixed at 25 million euros and has not changed after Girona's relegation. However, the club's management understands that the deal could be completed for less than 20 million euros if they reach an agreement with one of the clubs interested in signing the player during the summer transfer window.
