Corinthians Signs Zakaria Labyad in a Free Transfer
The Brazilian club Corinthians announced its signing of Moroccan international Zakaria Labyad on a free transfer, making him the team's sixth signing for the 2026 football season.
The club clarified in an official statement that the 32-year-old midfielder has signed a contract extending until December 31, with a clause allowing for automatic renewal until the end of 2027 if the objectives outlined in the contract are met.
Corinthians confirmed that Labyad has already joined the team's training sessions and will be available to the coaching staff in the coming period, awaiting his official appearance in the club's jersey. This makes him one of the first Moroccan players to experience the Brazilian league, following a previous experience by Mohamed Al-Aroush with Botafogo, although he did not participate in any official matches.
Labyad has had a long career in European football, having progressed through the ranks at PSV Eindhoven and started his professional journey in 2010, before moving to Sporting Lisbon in 2012. During this period, he was loaned out to Vitesse Arnhem and Fulham.
In 2017, he returned to the Dutch league through the Utrecht gateway, before moving to Ajax Amsterdam, where he won several local titles, most notably the league and the cup. He also had a short stint in the Chinese league with the clubs Yunnan Yukun and Dalian Yingbo.
On the international level, Labyad wore the Moroccan national football team jersey from the under-23 category, and his last appearance was in 2018 under coach Hervé Renard during a friendly match against Uzbekistan, in preparation for the World Cup finals in Russia.
