Pending Issue Threatens Morocco vs Scotland World Cup Match
Sunday 15-02-2026
Concerns are rising about the readiness of Gillette Stadium to host the match between the Moroccan national team and Scotland, as part of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, scheduled to take place between June and July next year in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with 48 teams participating for the first time in the tournament's history.

The stadium located in the city of Foxborough has not yet received the official license to host the match due to financial and administrative disputes among the concerned parties, related to labor costs and some expenses associated with the infrastructure during the tournament period.

According to the British newspaper The Sun, the Foxborough City Council is demanding a payment of about 6 million pounds to cover labor costs and additional expenses. Meanwhile, the Kraft family, owners of the New England Patriots, refuse to bear this amount, arguing that the stadium will be under the supervision of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) throughout the World Cup.

This disagreement opens the door to the possibility of moving the match to another stadium or making a late adjustment to the match schedule, which could place additional pressure on the Moroccan team and its fans before the start of the tournament.

In contrast, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is working to resolve the crisis as soon as possible, focusing on preparing the pitch and enhancing readiness to ensure the match takes place on its scheduled date. This is particularly important as the Moroccan national team is competing in Group C alongside Brazil, Haiti, and Scotland, with hopes of continuing the positive results achieved in the previous edition.
