Adnan Darjal Confirms Continuation of Iraqi Stars League During International Break
The President of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal, affirmed the commitment of the federation to make firm decisions to ensure the regularity of the Iraqi Stars League competitions during the current season, amidst repeated postponements that have affected the schedule of the competition and led to its delay compared to other leagues in the region and the world.
Darjal explained in media statements that the federation is moving towards compressing the match schedule in order to finish the championship on its set date, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the competition's rhythm and avoiding further stoppages that could affect the readiness of clubs and players.
Darjal stated:
"The technical staff of the Iraqi national team, led by Australian Graham Arnold, is fully monitoring the players, and regular meetings are held two or three times a week to discuss all details related to preparing the team and getting ready for upcoming commitments, foremost among them the decisive global playoff that will be held in the city of Monterrey, Mexico."
He added:
"The training camp will be held in a country close to Mexico, and this is a mission everyone is waiting for, as more than 45 million Iraqis are anticipating joy, and we hope the players will be at their best and that the national team will succeed in qualifying after a 40-year absence, as Iraq's last participation in the World Cup was in 1986."
The President of the federation clarified that the league competition will not stop despite international commitments, as he pointed out:
"The Iraqi Stars League competitions will continue even during the international break, which was agreed upon with the clubs, allowing teams to register five players, including two recognized ones, to ensure the continuation of the competition without disruption."
He continued:
"The league must end before the end of next May, before the start of the 2026 World Cup competitions, which requires the cooperation of all parties to make the current season successful."
The Iraqi Stars League started in September 2025 and has reached the seventeenth round so far, with its competitions set to conclude at the thirty-fifth round, amidst intense competition between clubs aiming to win the title or secure advanced positions.
The current season has witnessed many challenges, most notably the pressure of matches and the numerous commitments of the Iraqi team in the Asian qualifiers for the World Cup, which forced the federation to take organizational measures to maintain the course of the championship.
The sports community hopes that these steps will contribute to achieving a balance between the league's requirements and the national team's preparations, especially with the approach of the global event that represents a long-awaited dream for Iraqi fans.
