The Mexican national team striker, Julián Quiñones, spoke to the press following the 2-0 victory over South Africa in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup, held at the Azteca Stadium.

The player said about his celebration with the bench: "Many ideas came to my mind, including celebrating and shouting with joy. I went to the bench to see my teammates because they gave me great confidence. I wanted to share this joy with them."

He added about Cesar Montes' expulsion: "There were some mistakes that cost us dearly. The expulsion is something that could have been avoided."

Regarding Raúl Jiménez scoring his first World Cup goal: "We congratulated him a lot because he contributes greatly to the team. Being part of the team is a source of pride for us, and it's wonderful that he continues to add goals to his career as a player in our national team."
