Pintos' Special Masks Appear in Real Madrid Training
Wednesday 04-02-2026
Today, Real Madrid embarked on a new phase of their season under the leadership of Álvaro Arbeloa, but this time at an unusual timing. A "winter preparation" period began after just six matches, following a change in the coaching staff amid a season full of ups and downs.

After two days of rest, the team returned to training today with vigor, led by Antonio Pintus, who conducted an intense physical session using his famous masks. Contrary to popular belief, these masks are not intended to simulate high-altitude training but rather to measure the players' maximum physical capabilities and oxygen consumption rates, in order to determine the ideal physical stress limits for each player.

The training session lasted about three hours and primarily focused on the physical aspect, in a move aimed at enhancing the team's "physical side" and regaining dominance in this area. This comes during a rare period when Real Madrid's schedule is free from midweek matches, providing the coaching staff with a valuable opportunity to work without interruptions.

The training sessions also brought positive medical news, with both Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold nearing their return. There is a clear intention to restore Federico Valverde to his natural position in midfield, and both Rüdiger and Mendy are close to full fitness.

Real Madrid is preparing to face Valencia at Mestalla after a series of continuous training sessions, before hosting Real Sociedad at the Bernabéu, taking advantage of this "exceptional" physical period.

Arbeloa summarized the phase by saying that victory is not achieved by just one thing, but by mastering many small details, which requires time and work on the field. Under the leadership of Pintus and his methods, there is hope that this "winter start" will be the true turning point in Real Madrid's season.
