Rome Shocks Carrasco with Unexpected Decision
The Italian club AS Roma has closed the file on signing Belgian Yannick Carrasco, the winger from the Saudi club Al-Shabab, after negotiations between the two parties stalled during the current winter transfer window.
Ricky Massara, the sporting director of AS Roma, confirmed that the negotiations with Al-Shabab's management did not reach a final agreement, prompting the Italian club to officially decide to cancel the deal.
Masara clarified in media statements that Roma tried to reach a suitable formula to complete the deal, but the complexity of the conditions and the lack of any progress ended the talks.
He pointed out that the management of Roma will look into other alternatives in the market if suitable opportunities arise to strengthen the team's lineup in the upcoming period.
The Al-Shabab club refused to let go of Carrasco's services, despite receiving two offers from Roma, one for a six-month loan and the other to purchase the player's contract.
Carrasco expressed his willingness to return to European fields and gave initial approval to move to Roma, but Al Shabab's insistence on their financial terms hindered the completion of the deal.
It is noted that Carrasco joined Al-Shabab in the summer of 2023, coming from Atletico Madrid, with a contract extending until June 2027.
The Belgian winger played 17 matches with Al-Shabab this season across various competitions, during which he scored 9 goals and provided 3 assists.
