Kompany: The Champions League is Not an Easy Tournament, and This is Important
Thursday 22-01-2026
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany spoke in a press conference after the team's 2-0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise in the seventh round of the Champions League group stage.

The coach said, "This tournament is not easy. I can't say that the opponent was better than us in the first half because we also created chances, but from our side, the rhythm wasn't right. Despite the red card in the second half, we actually played very well."

He added: "For me, there was a clear improvement in performance in the second half. But overall, the team's strength always lies in its reaction. At some moments, that wasn't enough, but then the situation improved."

Regarding the team's performance in the first half: "Opponents try to give their all against us. In the first half, the opponent is fresh and energetic, but this isn't just about Bayern. I've also played for other clubs where we were the dominant team."

He emphasized, "Sometimes the match is decided in the second half, which is natural. The result is not always determined in the first half. However, we were not at our best in the first half today. But we must not forget that we are playing every two or three days. At the moment, we are doing an excellent job, winning matches, and today we kept a clean sheet. Balance is also important."

He concluded regarding Kane's rare penalty miss: "Now he can start his streak again, no problem. I know Harry; his focus wasn't affected during the match. His role with us remains consistent regardless of whether he misses a penalty or a chance from a cross. It's all the same to me."
