Spalletti: Happy with the Victory, We Need to Improve This Aspect
Thursday 22-01-2026
Luciano Spalletti, the coach of Juventus, expressed his satisfaction with his team's 2-0 victory over Benfica in the seventh round of the Champions League, while also emphasizing that there are some aspects that need improvement.

Spalletti said: "I am calm, and sometimes I fear I might not succeed even when I do. Obviously, we live the emotions of the match, and then everything comes down on us if we don't get results like this."

He continued: "There was some tension, and we played a good match. We expected to control the ball 80% of the time again, but we didn't succeed in that. We started well, then they created spaces in our half that forced us to make great efforts in recovery. Except for losing two balls in a naive way, I think it was a good match, and we had clear scoring opportunities."

He added: "I expect there to be greater speed in reading when opponents press us. This is part of football, and we have to work on this aspect. We lost some balls in starts, which allowed Benfica to attack us again. We could have performed better in this aspect."

Spalletti said about the player David: "I am satisfied because he knows how to play football, but he lacks the ferocity and sharpness that makes him say this ball is mine. For him, everything is equal. He has the good boy personality, but to be more decisive, he has to be more aggressive."
