De Zerbi: Liverpool Match Will Not Change Marseille's Season, Capable of Competing Against Any Opponent
Tuesday 20-01-2026
Roberto De Zerbi, the coach of the French club Marseille, confirmed that the match against Liverpool in the Champions League will not affect his team's season, expressing his confidence in his players' ability to compete against any team.

Marseille will host Liverpool on Wednesday evening as part of the seventh round of the group stage in the European competition. Liverpool currently sits in ninth place with 12 points, while Marseille is in sixteenth place with 9 points.

At the post-match press conference, De Zerbi said: "Can the Liverpool match change our season because we can qualify? One result cannot change an entire season at all."

He added: "The defeat in the French Super Cup still hurts us, it really hurts, but we know that we are capable of competing."

He continued: "We know that we can compete with any team; I have a strong team."

De Zerbi explained: "Tactical preparation is more difficult, while mental preparation is easier. We need to improve, and we must think that every match should be prepared in the same way, because we can win against any team, and likewise, we can lose to any team. Therefore, the preparation is the same."

He added: "I have never attended a match aiming for a draw; we prepare for matches and play to win, and only to win."

He concluded his statements by saying: "We must play with courage; we have the ability to look them in the eye, just as we did against Paris Saint-Germain."
