The match witnessed a high level of parity between the two teams, with no goals scored throughout the minutes of the game, before the decisive penalties favored the Nigerian team, which showed greater focus to clinch the third-place playoff.

With this victory, Nigeria continued its impressive record in third-place matches, having never suffered a defeat in its history during these encounters in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria had previously won the bronze medal in the editions of 1978, 1992, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, and 2019, now adding the bronze of the 2025 edition to its rich continental achievements.
