Real Madrid Coach Álvaro Arbeloa Discusses Team Readiness and Upcoming Match
Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against Levante, in the 20th round of the Spanish league, to be held at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
The coach said in his statement: "We are at the peak of our focus, full of tremendous energy, and eager to play this decisive match. We want to return to our home stadium and continue fighting for the league title. We aim to strengthen this motivation with an outstanding performance."
He added: "I have great respect for the opinion of the Bernabéu fans. I understand their feelings of pain and disappointment, but I ask them to support their players. Great achievements have been made thanks to the Bernabéu's support for the players. I ask them to stand by us, support us, and we hope this season ends the way we wish."
Regarding his habits before training: "I usually arrive early, and of course, there is a lot of work waiting for me. I came here to work, and I will do my best and dedicate the necessary hours to bring the team to the position it deserves and to win every possible title."
He continued about Kylian Mbappé's condition: "He has improved and will be included in the squad list."
Regarding the team's physical condition: "If anyone thinks that my comments are a criticism of Chapi and his coaching staff, they are completely mistaken. At Albacete, we lacked ideas, physical fitness, and many other things, and I was responsible for that, and I will continue to be from now on. It is an honor for me to work with Antonio Pintus, and we will work hard to get the players back to their best condition in every aspect."
He added: "The available players were called up for the Albacete match; those who stayed in Madrid were at risk of injury. I wanted to commend Vinicius's efforts because I fully understand what he was going through. It was an extremely tough week that required a lot of hard work, not just because of his determination, but also because of the match he played. This is what I expect from Vinicius; this is what leadership means. I have also read a lot of criticism directed at the youth academy. Rest assured, I will stand by you because, to me, Real Madrid's youth academy is the best in the world, and they will always have my support."
He explained: "Bellingham trained with us for a few days, and you can see up close the kind of player he is. He should be another leader in this team. I always prefer players who have speed and movement, and he has the ability to create and build attacks. I will ask him to be the key player. He also has the ability to penetrate the penalty area, and we need to take advantage of this quality."
He explained: "Fede can shine anywhere, even as a goalkeeper. He is an extremely talented player and can excel in any position. In the last match, I played him in his original position. But he is also a great leader, and he has proven that in recent months. We will see him play in multiple positions because he has a lot to offer us. I prefer a team characterized by constant movement, where players interchange positions. I am sure Fede will truly enjoy playing football, and that is my main goal. Fede embodies the spirit of Real Madrid and is the best representative of that motto."
He continued: "I want to see Real Madrid push to win from the very first minute. This is our goal, without a doubt: to attack the opponent's goal. I want the Bernabéu fans to know what we want. I want a team with a strong character, high morale, that inspires the fans."
Regarding Arbeloa's statements that the team hit rock bottom after the Albacete match: "I understand that people look for a scapegoat, but I strive to find solutions. Everything that happens on the pitch is my responsibility. When things go wrong, I realize I need to support my teammates better. I feel a great responsibility for everything that happens on the field. I still feel the same way about that defeat at Albacete. I like what I say to my teammates in the locker room—I told them a story: It took me many years to win my first European Cup. I had already won the World Cup, two European Championships, and the record-breaking La Liga title... When we finally won the tenth, after a huge effort, I got on the bus, and behind me was a teammate playing his first season in the Champions League. He said to me, ‘Next year, let’s try again.’ I looked at him and said, ‘After all this effort, the past doesn’t exist. Not when you win the European Cup, nor when you get knocked out of the Champions League. Or Albacete. This is Real Madrid.’"
He explained, "Coaches always need time, which we lack, but honestly, I don't need anything. The schedule remains as it is, and it neither frightens nor worries me. All I need are great players like those on my team. I am very excited and highly motivated. I always strive to be a natural fighter, and I am lucky to have an exceptional team. We are ready."
He pointed out: "I have failed many times. I did not reach where I am today through continuous successes; I have experienced wonderful moments, but I have also gone through very difficult times that shaped my character. For this reason, I firmly believe that failure improves a person."
And he concluded about Rodrigo: "Rodrigo will not be available tomorrow. He is recovering from an extremely intense physical effort he made last week. We hope he returns soon and is ready to participate on Tuesday. We all know Rodrigo's exceptional quality and the wonderful moments he has given us. In recent months, he has regained his best form. We wish him a speedy recovery."
