Rossini: Commitment Was Good Despite the Result, and Garnacho Proved His Quality
Chelsea coach Liam Rossini expressed his satisfaction with his players' responsiveness and collective effort in the first leg of the English League Cup semi-final against Arsenal, despite the 3-2 loss, pointing out some mistakes that cost the team crucial goals.
Rossignol said: "This is the end of the first half of the two matches. I was very pleased with the players' engagement and commitment; they gave their all. The game was completely open. I felt disappointed to concede a goal from a corner kick, as well as the third goal, because we were making a comeback and were in the leading position at that moment."
He continued: "We stopped after the game resumed from a central free kick, but I can't blame the players. The team has suffered from some illnesses and injuries this week, but what the team has shown is that they are ready to run and fight for each other."
Regarding the performance of goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, he said: "Robert is an excellent goalkeeper; he made brilliant saves to keep us in the game. For me, there is a lot we need to improve, but I liked the team's overall attitude. We hope some players will return to participate against Brentford on Saturday."
Rossinyol added about Alejandro Garnacho, who scored two goals after coming on as a substitute: "I said he would be important off the bench, and he proved that today. I have a great team, and what I need from them is commitment, whether they start the match or come on as substitutes. Garnacho showed his quality, and I think Pedro Neto was amazing, and Estêvão was also great."
He concluded by saying: "We must emphasize that if we perform well on an individual level, we would not have conceded such a large number of goals."
