Revealing the duration of De Jong's suspension after being sent off against Real Madrid
The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" announced that Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong will be suspended for one match following the red card he received in the 90th minute of the Spanish Super Cup final, due to a challenge on Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé.
The sending-off was based on the decision of the on-field referee José Luis Monoyera Montero, without any modification from the video technology, which led the disciplinary referee for non-professional competitions at the Spanish Football Federation to issue the sanction. The referee stated that the suspension was due to violent conduct during play or as a direct result of an incident in the match, with an additional fine imposed according to Article 52.
According to Article 56 of the disciplinary law, De Jong will serve the penalty in the next match, which means the player is prohibited from participating in or being present on the field, the bench, or the locker room area for the entire duration of the suspension, even if there are changes to the match schedule.
The suspension will continue in the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey next Thursday, when Barcelona faces Racing Santander in a single-elimination match.
Thus, the Dutch player will be available to coach Hans Flick for the upcoming La Liga match on Sunday against Real Sociedad at the Anoeta Stadium, after his suspension ends.
