Courtois: We Were a Nightmare for Barcelona, and We Could Have Easily Won
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois appeared in a press statement following the 3-2 loss in the Spanish Super Cup final, held at the Al Inma Stadium in Jeddah.
The goalkeeper said: "We played a good match, especially in the second half, and it is never pleasant to lose a final against your opponent. We feel sad today, but tomorrow we have to work hard for the King's Cup match on Wednesday, and for La Liga, and to keep moving forward."
He added: "First of all, we deserved to win in the second half, but the circumstances were not in our favor today. In recent months, we have gone through a period where things did not go as they should, and that is the truth. Today, we showed that we are still a team capable of playing, especially in the second half, and we could have easily won."
He added: "In the first half, we were perhaps too defensive, but in the second half, we showed a greater offensive approach, and they appeared exhausted, which is natural given the high temperature. We had chances, but the ball didn’t go into the net; all ended up in the hands of Juan Garcia, which sums up today’s match. We have to keep fighting. With the spirit we showed today and in the previous match, I am confident that we will achieve victory."
And he concluded about Vinicius: "We have complete confidence in him. He is a fantastic player, and we know he is capable of it. He proved it once again today. He is very talented and skillful. His goal was wonderful, and the entire match was a nightmare for them. Perhaps we didn’t make the most of our chances. He played an excellent game, and we hope to take some positives despite the defeat. We have three or four very important matches in January, and we’ll see if we can win them."
