At a press conference following the 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final at the King Fahd International Stadium, Atlético Madrid's head coach Diego Simeone spoke.

We found ourselves behind in the score, yet we played the entire match the way we wanted, creating scoring opportunities. In some cases, we weren't as decisive as we usually are, and in others, Courtois made great saves, especially the save against Sørloth's header. The competition was very strong. I can't blame my team; we congratulate the opponent and continue working with the same approach."

He added: "We lacked a bit of calmness in the final shot, but Courtois made good saves two or three times. The team played the way we wanted. They scored a wonderful goal, then finished the match brilliantly with an excellent counterattack. In the first half, there was another chance for Rodrigo on the right side. We played the match as we envisioned: controlling the ball, moving on the flanks, being present in the penalty area... We weren't decisive, and we have to congratulate the opponent because they were more effective."

Regarding the argument with Vinicius Junior: "I have nothing to say. What happens on the field, since we were kids, stays there. Nothing more to add."

And he continued: "We heard you say to Vinicius, 'Florentino will fire you.' Did she say that? I don't remember, my memory isn't good."

Regarding the match against Deportivo in the Copa del Rey: "I hope we recover in the best way to face an opponent who is performing well in their category."

He continued about the goal, "It was a wonderful goal, an exceptional shot. I could only watch it calmly on the field. It shows that he strikes the ball excellently. Despite that, the team played a very good match, and winning was the only goal, but we didn't succeed, and they showed strong character in finishing the chances they had."

He emphasized: "The temperature affects the course of the match, but it impacted both teams in the same way. Each team sought to win in its own way. This time, we were not decisive, and the opponent deserves congratulations."

He added: "We created many opportunities in the final moments... There are days when we say 'we didn't play well and didn't create chances,' and today was the complete opposite, yet we still lost the match."
