Bellingham: A Tough Match Awaits Us, and Everyone Supports Alonso
Real Madrid midfield star Jude Bellingham appeared in a press conference to talk about tomorrow's match against Atlético Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final, held at the Al Inma Stadium in Jeddah.
The English star said: "It will be a tough match, they are a stubborn opponent. We have to learn from our first league match against them; that was our first defeat, but we reviewed the game and benefited from it. I look forward eagerly to tomorrow's match."
He added about changing his position: "The change was easy. In my first season here, I played near the opponent's penalty area and scored many goals, but after Mbappé arrived, we have a natural striker who scores 40 goals in a season, so it’s no longer necessary for me to push forward a lot. I will contribute to scoring goals every season; I have the ability to move forward. I scored 15 goals when I played in a deeper position, which is not bad at all. This year, I play in a deeper position and participate more in the play. It’s a different role, but goals have never been the most important thing for me."
He continued: "I think Vinícius is under a lot of pressure; he puts great effort on the field. He might face some difficulties in front of the goal, but I see him as an amazing and very creative player. Goals alone are not enough; there are assists and impactful plays. We have to consider him a very valuable teammate. I’m sure he will return to his usual level."
Regarding hosting the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia: "The facilities are excellent, as are the stadiums. Important matches can be held here, and there is a real passion for football in this country. Organizers should move tournaments to different continents so this sport can grow. It’s a somewhat long journey, but the experience is worth it."
He added: "We are all united; the coaching staff and players must be united. Sometimes we go through ups and downs, but I think we should focus on our current situation: we are in the Super Cup semi-final, four points behind the league leader, and among the top eight teams in the Champions League. Being Real Madrid, everything is magnified, but we aim to perform better."
About the dressing room: "We have talked about the problems, but we know what is going on in the dressing room. We support the coach, and there is no room for discussion. Things are going well, and we are working on improving. My relationship with everyone is very good; if things are not right, we sit down and talk. We fully support the coach."
He concluded about promoting the arrival of English players to Real Madrid: "That is not true; no player has that kind of influence at the club. I don’t even know where to start on this topic... Thank you."
