Desabre: History Does Not Concern Us, Our Goal Is to Eliminate Algeria and Qualify for the Quarterfinals
The coach of the Democratic Republic of Congo national team, Sébastien Desabre, confirmed that Algeria's slight historical edge in previous encounters does not concern him at all, emphasizing that his full focus is on securing victory and qualifying for the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
During the press conference held today, Monday, in response to a question about the psychological readiness of his players, especially since the Democratic Republic of Congo has never beaten Algeria, the French coach said: "We are focusing only on the match; past statistics do not matter to us. What matters is qualifying for the quarterfinals."
Desabre added that tomorrow's match will not be easy, just like the other games in the tournament, while also highlighting the progress his national team has shown as the matches have progressed: "All the matches have been tough, and we are happy because we are improving as the tournament advances."
Regarding psychological pressure, the former coach of JS Saoura dismissed any negative impact on his players, affirming: "There is no pressure; the Democratic Republic of Congo national team is accustomed to such matches, and we have even come to enjoy playing under pressure."
On the other hand, Desabre refused to discuss the tactical aspects of the Algerian national team or talk about the role of captain Riyad Mahrez, especially regarding his position playing behind the striker, explaining: "We focus on our team and our style of play, and we have our own plan."
The coach of the Democratic Republic of Congo concluded his statements by saying: "We know the Algerian national team players well; they are a strong team with their own style, but the most important thing for us is to deliver a great match."
