Gamal Al-Ghandour: Tanzania Subjected to Unfair Refereeing Against Morocco
Wednesday 07-01-2026
Former international Egyptian referee Gamal Al-Ghandour confirmed that the Tanzania national team was subjected to unfair refereeing against the Morocco national team in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Moroccan national team won against the Tanzanian national team with a 1-0 score last Sunday evening in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.

In the final moments of the match, a Tanzanian player was clearly pushed by Moroccan defender Adam Masina inside the penalty area, but the referee did not award a penalty to Tanzania, despite protests from the Tanzanian players.

Gamal El-Ghandour commented on the refereeing situation in an analytical video, saying: "There is clear pushing and pulling inside the penalty area, and the Tanzanian player was in control of the ball, which makes the correct decision to award a penalty kick."

He added: "The referee did not count anything, and the video technology referee did not intervene or call the on-field referee to review the situation, despite the clear violation."

The former international referee emphasized that the greater responsibility lies with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), saying: "The greater blame in this case falls on the VAR referee more than the on-field referee, because intervention was necessary in a moment that significantly affected the outcome of the match."
