Asensio: This was important, and I want to score more goals
Real Madrid defender Raúl Asensio appeared in a press statement following the 5-1 victory over Betis in the eighteenth round of the Premier League at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
The young Spanish defender said: "It was important for us to start the year this way: on our home ground and in front of our fans, and to show a different side compared to the end of last year. It was an important match for us to prepare for what’s ahead."
Regarding scoring his first goal with the first team: "It has been a long time since I scored a goal, and scoring in front of the fans was an amazing experience. I was lucky enough to receive a perfect cross from Rodrigo, and I took advantage of it to score my first goal. I hope to score many more goals in front of our fans."
He continued, "To whom do you dedicate your goal? Today, a young man from the Canary Islands, currently living in Madrid, named Elias, who is battling leukemia and has been fighting the disease for a long time, attended. It was wonderful to score the goal on the same day he was here. It was my duty to dedicate it to him. I'm sure he enjoyed it a lot, and we will invite him many more times."
He concluded about the Super Cup: "It was important for us to feel high spirits today in preparation for what’s coming. In the end, it’s an important competition for us against strong opponents. We will go there with full enthusiasm. Leaving the Santiago Bernabéu with these feelings gives us an extra morale boost."
