Amorim Clarifies His Position on Changing Manchester United's Tactical Plan
Monday 29-12-2025
Portuguese coach Rúben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, confirmed that in the past he deliberately avoided changing the team's tactical plan to prevent the players from thinking he was influenced by media pressure. He pointed out that the current tactical flexibility is a result of evolving circumstances within the team.

Amorim said in his statements during the press conference ahead of the Premier League match against Wolverhampton: "I won't always play with three defenders, we will improve, and this is what I have always talked about."

He added: "When you talk about changing Manchester United's plan, I can't do that, because the players will understand that I am changing the plan because of the media."

He continued: "I realized last season that I didn't have the right players to implement my plan."

The Manchester United coach continued his statements, saying: "At the moment, we have a limited number of players, so we need to adapt to a new plan, and the players fully understand the reasons for this change."

Amorim's remarks come amid the clear improvement of Manchester United this season, as the team has risen to sixth place in the Premier League table, just three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, after finishing last season in fifteenth place.
